Thirst or “Bakjwi” in Korean is a slick vampire flick i recently had the pleasure of watching. This movie came from the director of Oldboy, Chan-Wook Park, and has the same level of quality though they are different in plot or style. FOr those who are not familiar with Park’s work, his films are brutal, poetic, tragic, and artistic, with splashes of very grim humor.

My friend, who is studying film and animation, recommended me this Brazillian movie, Casa de Areia, when we were talking about happiness. This film is a slow-starter but patient viewers will be rewarded with something quite magical and probably memorable. This is a stunning film, visually and emotionally. Although rooted in a forsaken sandy wasteland, the film is a metaphor for how circumstance locates us and how we can or cannot get out of the place in which we find ourselves. It is a masterpiece of film-making from Brazil.

I loved this movie because it is fully of truthful contrasts. The larger story portrays the passing of time and immense global changes through war, scientific and technological advances. Everything changes, yet stays the same. Regardless of the generation, youth longs for excitement and change, while time brings calmness and acceptance of circumstance. The most amazing part is all is that the passing of time is portrayed from within an oasis in the middle of sand dunes where the sands of time pass slowly yet surely. This contrast, and the circumstances that bring the characters there, leave the audience wondering which they would choose, the simple, calm, and relaxed life of the sand, or the stressful, competitive, yet object filled life in the city.

It’s important to stay sharp to catch the change in generations because the actresses remain the same throughout, but this only adds to the story’s message once you figure it out. I gave it a 7.5 out of 10.

Tapes of leaked answering machine messages have revealed the late ‘Thriller’ singer – who died of acute Propofol intoxication last June – begged friends for money to help him start a new life as he feared for his safety.

In many messages he sounds frantic and paranoid, while in others his voice is slurred and he appears dazed and confused.

Daphne said: “Some of Michael’s closest confidents talked to me exclusively about his addictions – and provided audio tapes of Michael never heard before.

‘These demonstrate different states of mind he was experiencing under the influence of pharmaceuticals.”

The next version of Rock Band could be dedicated to Jimi Hendrix, according to word from the Hendrix estate. Step-sister Janie Hendrix told the Los Angeles Times to expect the Hendrix-branded game by the end of the year, the perfect trump over Guitar Hero.

Hendrix is arguably the Zeus of guitar gods, though MTV-owned Harmonix tamped down the rumor a bit. “While we have not made any official announcements regarding Jimi Hendrix and Rock Band, we are excited to say that we are in discussions to bring more of his music to our platform,” a Harmonix spokesperson told Joystiq. So, talks may be ongoing, and different variations could be at work, including a more simple Hendrix licensing instead of a themed game.

Guitar purists will undoubtedly be unhappy either way, part of a broader debate over whether plastic guitars and buttons are reasonable substitutes for the real thing. But perhaps this debate is part of a broader cycle – just a few generations ago, parents were screaming at their kids to turn down that rock n’ roll, put down those noisy guitars and take some responsibility in life (goddamit).

Back to the present, some questions also surround the merits of releasing another iteration of Rock Band. Revenues from music-related games slumped substantially last year, in numbers that easily outpaced broader gaming declines. That includes The Beatles: Rock Band, an underperforming title.

John Mayer has been branded “kind, caring and compassionate” by a children’s charity.

The ‘Gravity’ singer has come under fire over a recent interview he gave – in which he described sleeping with ex-girlfriend Jessica Simpson as like “a drug” and used the word “n****r” – but has now been defended by The Isaac Foundation, which raises money for children with a rare enzyme deficiency known as MPS VI.

On the official blog, the organisation wrote: “I don’t care what Playboy magazine writes about the man, and I don’t care what John says to the journalists that write what they do about him. In America, it’s all part of the game – get in a magazine, light up the blogosphere, stay relevant – end of story.”

John – who is more famed for his womanising ways and wild sex life – has donated money to the group as well as spending lots of time with Isaac, the little boy with MPS VI whose parents founded the organisation.

The foundation added: “I know he has said things that turn people off. I know he’s said things that make him sound like someone you would never want your children around – ever. But I also know the person that he truly is and the good things he tries to accomplish with the celebrity status he’s achieved.

Lady Gaga doesn’t own a house.

The ‘Poker Face’ singer claims to be so dedicated to her career, she uses all of her money to fund her elaborate stage sets and improve her musical skills.

She said: “I live right here in the moment. I live on stage. I don’t own a house, I don’t spend money on those things.

“I live out of a suitcase and I make music and art and I spend every dollar that I make on stage – that’s it.”

The star is so focused on her work, she rarely takes time off but says her idea of a treat when she isn’t working is a bowl of pasta.

She explained to more! magazine: “I don’t have that many days off. But Sundays used to be the day my family would always make fresh food at home. So sometimes I like to let myself eat what I want on a Sunday.

“I’m on a very strict healthy pop star diet. I don’t eat bread, just vegetables and salad and fish. Eating like that is much better for me anyway but on Sundays I sometimes eat pasta.”

I recently knew about this Japanese manga series called “Death Note”, actually heard about it from a friend who was a big fan of the series. He talked me into watching it and grew interest in me. As i started watching it, i immediately felt its intense focus on the littlest details of subject matters of the story and greatly liked it. Now i’m definitely hooked!
